Anthony Chen
Executive Producer/ Director (Singapore)

Born in 1984 in Singapore, Anthony Chen enrolled in Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Film and Media Studies at an early age of 17 to pursue his passion for filmmaking. He graduated from film school with his graduation film, G-23 which screened at multiple festivals worldwide and won awards in Europe and Asia. His second short film, Ah Ma (Grandma), was nominated for the Palme d’Or for Short Film at the 60th Cannes Film Festival, and was awarded a Special Mention. Haze (2008), his next short screened in competition at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival.

Collectively, his shorts have screened at numerous prestigious film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, Busan, London, Sao Paulo, Stockholm, Sydney, Montreal, Melbourne, Chicago, Hawaii, etc. In 2009, he was accorded the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council of Singapore. In 2010, he completed his Masters in Film Directing at the National Film and Television School, UK. Anthony is currently based in London.

His debut feature, Ilo Ilo, was selected for the Directors’ Fortnight at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and was awarded the Camera d’Or for Best Debut Feature, the first award for a Singapore feature film at Cannes. It picked up over 30 other awards at festivals worldwide including 4 Golden Horse Awards (Best Film, Best New Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress) at the 50th Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan. Anthony has also been recently named as Variety magazine’s 10 Directors to Watch.

1984生于新加坡,17岁的陈哲艺在2001年考入新加坡义安理工学院修读电影课程,开始追逐他的电影梦。

2006年,年仅23岁的陈哲艺就带着他的第一部短片《G-23》参加了戛纳电影节“世界电影展映” (Tous les cinemas du monde)项目,也开始在欧洲及亚洲地区赢得不少奖项肯定。

2007年他的第二部短片《阿嬷》在第60届戛纳影展的短片竞赛中获得特别表扬奖。这个有着儒雅外表, 说话不紧不慢的青年导演,为新加坡搬回了第一 个戛纳电影节大奖,成为亚洲一颗冉冉 升起的导演新星。

之后,他的又一部短片《雾》(Haze)选入柏林影展角逐短片项目的金熊奖。他的短片作品也陆续亮相 坎城、柏林、鹿特丹、釜山、伦敦、圣保罗、斯德哥尔摩、悉尼、蒙特利尔、墨尔本、芝加哥、夏威夷等世界各地影展。

然而,正在职业前途大好的当口,他却没有乘胜追击,连续展开长片计划,而是跑到英国国家电影电视学院National Film and Television School继续深造电影创作,念了两年电影指导硕士。

2009年,陈哲艺被授予新加坡国家艺术理事会所颁的青年艺术家奖。

2013年学成归来的陈哲艺第三次来到戛纳,而此次与他一起亮相的,是他的第一部剧情长片《爸妈不在家》(ILO ILO)。

2013年无疑是陈哲艺的丰收年,他凭借第一部长片电影《爸妈不在家》(ILO ILO )一举拿下超过30 个国际奖项,其中包括第66届戛纳国际电影节金摄影机奖(最佳处女作),第50届台湾金马奖最佳影片,最佳新导演,最佳原著剧本等四大奖项,创下了新加坡电影在国际影坛上的新高。也在同年,这部片子代表新加坡角逐奥斯卡最佳外语片。 美国 Variety 《综艺周刊》更评选他为年度十大注目导演。
